Our first event was held at Publika, Solaris Dutamas on 23 & 24 June 2012.

Art of Speed Malaysia showcased the finest in contemporary and classic interpretation of art in the automotive scene. This event is modeled after the highly successful “Mooneyes Yokohama Hot Rod & Custom Show” which is an annual event in Japan and 2012 marked their 21st anniversary.

Our event featured artwork in various formats including canvas, poster, moving visual, sculpture and rolling art. Exhibitors were exclusively invited to the show promising a quality show for the spectators.

Art of Speed Malaysia 2012 saw participation from three International builders from Jakarta, Bangkok and Singapore. We also had a surprise visit from Japan. A representative from Mooneyes Japan was here to join in the show.

The topping of the show was the Midnight Cruise event where traffic police escorted a parade of customized choppers and hot rods, vehicles which can never be registered in Malaysia, for a drive around the city. Among other highlights were our Builder’s Forum: The first ever builders forum to be held for automotive event.The panelist were James Wong (Tedco Malaysia), Sallehuddin Hamzah (Classic bike enthusiast and builder from Malaysia), Matthew Lim & Teresa Tay (Vicious Cycles Singapore), Veroland (KickAss Choppers Jakarta) and Thor Pongsivapai (Thor Chops & Kustoms Bangkok). We also had our own Art of Speed Malaysia 2012 Mini Concert : Artist line up were Altimet, Tiga Swagger, Kaka Azraff, 3Kustik, Majesty, Kugiran d’Tepi Pantai, The Malayan, LOKA Band, Nifael Blues Band, Aryan Band and special B-Boy Battle 2012 judged by Wakaka Entertainment crews.

The event captured approximately 12,000 visitors based on hourly foot traffic for both days. As for media participation and support, the event saw a tremendous coverage from TV3 Melodi, NST CBT, AUTO BH, Harian Metro, Kosmo, Top Gear Malaysia, Auto Maskulin, WTR, Chopper Rocker, On The Road, The Score, and also on-line news blog portal such as Motor Trader, 7Tune, etc. We also had support coverage from Japan Mooneyes website, ChiangMai Thailand Real Biker magazine, Singapore on-line site Streething and also blogger from Indonesia.

We are back this year and we promise you a quality show and a festival that will be a memorable one!

SWITCHBLADE™ KUALA LUMPUR – Switchblade™ Kuala Lumpur, a conceptual lifestyle store that epitomises the rockabilly (the term comes from the word Rock n’ Roll and Hillbilly a reference to music that developed in the early 1950s) concept with outstanding products on its retail racks and superb interior deco, celebrates its second anniversary today.

“Over the past two years, we had a healthy challenge to introduce a rare clothing label from Belgium. The amount of branding and marketing exercises were done everyday and never stop till today. It is also a challenge to us to tackle the saturated market of 2 in 1 lifestyle outlets among urban consumers mainly dining and clothing industry in Malaysia. Our task is to actually introduce a different clothing concept lifestyle and match it with dining experience to our shoppers”, says Asep Ahmad Sastrawidjaja, the savvy young Managing Director.

The outlet is also sharing their sweet success in organising the first Kustom Kulture & Hot Rod Show held in Kuala Lumpur on 23 & 24 June 2012. The event had a successful inauguration as the first ever event of its kind. With the theme of ‘The Art of Speed’, the event celebrated art in automotive culture in various forms and media.

According to the organiser, some 12,000 people visited the event, which was held in the open courtyard at the Publika complex in Solaris Dutamas. 16 cars were displayed though one of the hotrods from Bangkok could not make it in time as there were Custom issues which delayed its clearance. There were also 36 motorcycles, including one from KickAss Choppers of Jakarta and five from Singapore.

According to Asep Ahmad, the event also had marked Malaysia in the world map as the event had a surprised visit by Steven Sare from Mooneyes Japan. He came to witness the show & was impressed with the variety & passion shown in the vehicles and art on display. “We look forward to future collaborations with them include possible involvement in the Mooneyes Yokohama Hod Rod & Custom Show”, Asep adds on.

The anniversary also keeps all the audience entertained by live entertainment by local independent artists and a Swap Meet was held. A very exciting concept where the outlet is sharing its venue with all the local entrepreneurs to showcase their crafts and services to all their patron. A pool of customized vehicles from American Muscle Cars to two-wheel choppers surrounded the premise to celebrate the anniversary.

The party also saw the organizer giving away a FREE fixed gear bicycle SE DRAFT LITE bike worth RM1,800.00 to a lucky draw winner, Fahmi Aini, 37 from Kuching, Sarawak.

Asep Ahmad also adds that by partnering closely with their patrons and fans locally in Malaysia, the company hopes to create an extension of point-of-sale vitality in the near future. Their smart move on tackling Malaysia’s two favourite lifestyle habits thus converging the two tenets as the put it in their tagline, “Come for the clothes, stay for the food!”
